The Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) public, not-for-profit foundation. Founded in May 2006, the Foundation is governed by a 22-member board of trustees that is focused on identifying partners in philanthropy, leveraging resources and relationships, and organizing and implementing programs designed to advance healthcare and promote wellness in the communities served by Southeast Alabama Medical Center and its affiliates. Southeast Alabama Medical Center is the region’s not-for-profit 370-bed community hospital. The hospital is governed by the 13-member board Houston County Healthcare Authority. Through prudent financial management, the Medical Center has been able to meet the needs of its patients for over 50 years; however, it faces many challenges: a growing demand for care driven by an aging population, decreasing reimbursement structure, and rising uninsured care. With the community’s support of the Foundation, the acquisition of equipment and technology and the expansion of health and wellness programs will occur sooner rather than later.
