Appreciated Securities
Giving appreciated stocks to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation is usually more advantageous than giving cash. If you give appreciated securities held longer than one year, you can deduct their full fair market value, regardless of what you originally paid for them. Your total deduction is limited to 30 percent of your adjusted gross income in any year, but you can take any unused deduction over a certain number of tax years. And, you pay no capital gains tax on the donated securities! With these tax savings, the actual cost of your gift is less than if you made a cash gift. If you are giving stock or bonds or securities to fund a trust or a life-income gift such as a Charitable Remainder Trust or Charitable Gift Annuity, please contact us for special transfer instructions. NOTICE: Consult your legal and tax advisors before making any material decisions based on this information.
Bequests
Leave a legacy by making a gift in your will to friends, family and charitable organizations like ours! A bequest is one of the simplest ways to remember those you care about most. If you plan to make a charitable gift through your will, seek guidance from your attorney regarding appropriate modifications to your will. Be as clear as possible in describing the intent of your gift and the desired recipient.
We hope you will tell us when you have named the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation in your will. We would very much like the opportunity to thank and recognize you for your generosity during your lifetime.

Grateful Patient Program
Making A Difference in the Lives of our Patients!
Our patients frequently show their gratitude for the excellent care they receive by saying thank you, offering a smile, and when they are able – offering financial support. That is why we created our Grateful Patient program. The Southeast Alabama Medical Center has been providing excellent care to the residents of the greater Dothan area and beyond for more than 50 years. Since opening its doors in March 2007, the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation has raised over $900,000 to help fund both present and future equipment, technology, facility expansion and program needs. Because annual operating expenses are underwritten by the hospital, 100 percent of gifts received can be used as the donor requests.
Honor Your Caregiver
Healing Hands, a special tribute opportunity within our Grateful Patient program, provides patients and their families and friends with a unique way to say thank you for the exemplary care they received at Southeast Alabama Medical Center by honoring someone who made an impression during your hospital experience.
A gift of any amount may become a Healing Hands tribute gift in honor of a doctor, nurse, other caregiver or support team member who had a special impact on your life. Without specifying the amount, we will recognize your Healing Hands nominee with a certificate and custom design lapel pin for them to proudly wear.
For caregivers whose mission is to heal, the greatest reward they can receive is a simple “thank you.”

Annual and Year end gifts
As you consider your year-end tax planning, we hope you will consider making good use of the income tax charitable deduction. Your 2009 year-end gift can significantly reduce your income taxes, while providing meaningful support for us. No matter what your income, if you itemize, you can almost always lower your income taxes through charitable giving. The amount of the income tax savings will depend on your tax bracket.
Example: If you are in a 33% income tax bracket in 2009, and you itemize your deductions, a $1,000 gift to us by December 31 will save you $330 in 2009 taxes.
Consider making more charitable gifts in those years when you have the most income — and are in the top federal income tax brackets. If such is the case for 2009, you may wish to consider accelerating future charitable gifts into this year. Check with your tax advisor.
Giving is, of course, much more than tax brackets and charitable deductions. Your charitable gifts make an important difference in what we are able to accomplish. Here are some of the best 2009 year-end gift ideas. We would be pleased to provide you with further information. Also, we urge you to discuss your tax planning with your accountant or other professional advisor.
