Inspiring Medicine through Human Touch
The Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine will soon graduate its first class of medical students in May of 2017. Since opening its doors in July of 2013 ACOM has welcomed a new class of students each year. In this short period of time, the SAMC Foundation has allocated its single largest gift to ACOM for its first campus expansion.
The 3,823 square-foot research center includes multiple stations and rooms, featuring state-of-the-art equipment for microscopy, tissue culture and bench research. The 11,840 square-foot Team Based learning center provides an expansive room supported by the latest technology to conduct team-based curricular events, with capacity for more than 600 people. The TBL center will also host institutional events, including Clerkship Fair and Hospital Day.
The SAMC Foundation has also established a General Scholarship Fund to help recruit the best and brightest students for medical training to help meet the demand for physicians throughout our region, state and country.
Through the initial Capital Campaign and the continued generosity of SAMC Foundation donors, more than $800,000 was provided for the development of this expansion. To date, more than $2.5 million dollars in private and corporate funds has been given in support of ACOM and will be used to enhance the medical training experience and help underwrite new programs that will benefit the needs of the community.
By ordering a personalized brick from the Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation, you can help pave a path to success for future physicians and become a part of history of the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. It’s the perfect way to recognize and remember family, friends and special occasions while supporting ACOM’s Endowment and Annual Funds.
ACOM Employees Give Back
Employee Partners raised
More than 25 Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty & Staff participated in the college’s first employee campaign. Over $7,000 was pledged during the November 2-13 campaign window to various funds including general purpose, endowment, scholarship and research. The investment of dedicated employees will shape the future of medical care in Dothan, throughout the region and across Alabama for years to come.
On a summer evening in 2013, more than 100 fellow art patrons and benefactors attended a unique arts acquisition benefit for the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and Southeast Alabama Medical Center. The Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation, in cooperation with the Wiregrass Museum of Art, presented a gallery of original works created by artists from around the Southeast. The pieces included oils, watercolors, mosaics, sculptures and outdoor installations.
Through the generosity of those who attended, along with subsequent acquisitions and donations, the Foundation was able to acquire an extensive collection of art for display at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and Southeast Alabama Medical Center. The Art of Healing Collection offers and infusion of creative expression and a brief visual respite from daily routines.
While many pieces in the collection have been sponsored by a generous patron, a few select pieces are still available for sponsorship. Click below to view the artworks available for sponsorship or call the SAMC Foundation for more information.
